Man tries to eat illegal tax-return checks, cops say

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- When a man arriving in Fort Lauderdale on a flight from Haiti was found in possession of illegal tax returns, authorities say he tried to eat them.
The Broward Sheriff's Office says Marc Saint Juste was taken into custody on 10 counts of fraudulent use of an ID. He remains in the Broward County Jail Wednesday with an immigration hold pending against him.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports U.S. customs officials found an envelope on Saint Juste Sunday. He refused to hand over the envelope, then stuffed the contents -- tax return checks bearing the names of fraud victims -- into his mouth.
An affidavit says Saint Juste told authorities someone in Haiti gave him the checks to bring to someone in South Florida.
