Man 'hires hitman to kill his wife as a birthday present to himself'

Police say a Las Vegas man hired a hitman to kill his beloved on his birthday as a gift to himself.
Jorge Victorino-Vazquez, 32, allegedly attempted to recruit someone who would be 'willing to kill his wife or would sell him a gun,' according to the Huffington Post.
Vazquez was arrested on Saturday, following a week-long undercover investigation into the man's murder plot.

On April 15, Vazquez asked an acquaintance if he had any leads for a hitman, but the informant turned around and reported him, police say.
The informant waited three days to tell the police, who then asked him to schedule a meeting to ensnare Vazquez.
An undercover officer met Vazquez on April 10 at the Triple Play restaurant, where Vazquez detailed his plan.

 

He said he 'wanted his wife killed because she was cheating on him, took his money, took his vehicles, wouldn't sign papers for him, and always threatened to call INS to have him deported,' according to police reports.
The undercover officer requested $2,000 for the job to be paid in two installments of $1,000.
Vazquez asked that the hitman break into his home around midnight at the end of the weekend and 'beat him up, steal his stuff and kill his wife.'

At a follow-up meeting, Vazquez provided the undercover officer with a photograph of his wife, her name, their address and a hand-drawn diagram of their home, according to the Huffington Post.
Throughout the process, the undercover officer offered Vazquez many opportunities to halt his plan, but Vazquez would not back down.
'He never made any hint that he did not want to follow through,' officials wrote in the report, adding that he said it would be his 'birthday present.'
On April 21, police collared Vazquez at their final meeting, where he was supposed to deliver the second $1,000 as the 'final payment for the killing of his wife,' according to police.
They detained him then and there and charged with solicitation to commit murder, conspiracy to commit murder and burglary.
Vazquez is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
