How the moon came to look like cheese

How the moon came to look like cheese

Nasa has released a new video showing how the Moon came to look like the pitted grey satellite that it does.

To celebrate the 1,000th day of Nasa's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, a video has been released showing how the Moon came to look like it does today.
"From year to year, the moon never seems to change," Nasa says. "Craters and other formations appear to be permanent now, but the moon didn't always look like this. Thanks to Nasa's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, we now have a better look at some of the moon's history."
The video shows that in the course of the Moon's 4.5 billion years, different sizes of asteroids have slammed into its surface, creating craters.
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, launched into space in 2009, collects detailed information about the Lunar environment. The mission is part of a programme to extend human presence in the solar system.
