Teenager 'attempted to rob police station'

A US teenager arrested for trying to hold up a police station is insisting that he was only joking.

Keithan Manuel, 18, allegedly walked into Wilmer police station in Texas with a white towel covering his hands.
Police say he walked up to a dispatch window, pointed his hidden hand at a female officer and said: "Give me all your money."
He then said he was really there to check on a warrant but later allegedly added: "You do know I have a gun."
Police chief Victor Kemp said the officer raised the alarm and Manuel was arrested at gunpoint.
"This young man wasn't using his head for sure," he told local journalists.
"You hear of those World's Dumbest Criminals every once in a while but you never think it's gonna happen in your city."
Manuel denied ever saying he had a gun, insisted he had only been joking with the officer.
"Man I play like that all the time, I didn't think she would take it seriously," he said.
However, he is still in jail facing a number of charges, including attempted robbery.
